A conversation with Ken Chrzan, Business Development Director at Derby Industries
What kind of business does Derby Industries engage in? 
Derby Industries was founded in 1975 by two brothers, Andrew and David Karafa. During the first year of operation, they leased a sewing machine, and began to produce Bible covers, briefcases, shaving kits, and associated luggage items. Over the next 20 years, their line of both sewn and heat sealed products expanded. Derby gained recognition as one of the largest custom case manufacturers in the United States.
As international competition increased, Derby moved into other markets. The company developed a line of medical products, including maternity and stretcher mattresses. Production evolved to include a high quality line of mattresses for correctional and behavioral health facilities.
From its inception, Derby has placed a major emphasis on quality craftsmanship and prompt delivery. Today, after more than 30 years, the Derby Industries mission remains unchanged.
How did Derby handle their visual marketing needs before working with Imagine?
We handled all of our marketing in-house. Some of it was good, some of it was just OK. We wanted a fresh look, and we wanted to work with a local marketing agency.
How has working with Imagine changed your approach?
It has made things easy for us. We call them up, tell them what we're looking for, and that’s what they deliver. Every project we have gotten from them has been a home run.
We receive compliments all the time on our marketing materials—from our sales reps, other manufacturers in our markets, as well as potential and existing customers.
What advice do you have for others looking for marketing assistance?
Consult with a visual marketing firm and get their feedback. The different approach provided by an outside party, the “fresh look” if you will, is the difference.
